In a very male-dominated industry, women are taking the lead by applying their programming skills to helping other women all over conquer the world. They are paving the way for the future women of science by building some of the most successful start-up companies and apps in tech history. Here are the 5 most innovative apps created by women, for women.

1. bSafe

Created by Silje Vallestad, bSafe allows users the freedom to come and go without having to worry about their personal safety. The app features a fake call to excuse you from any uncomfortable situation, a GPS tracking system where friends can walk with you, a timer for workouts, and an alarm that will alert your contacts if you are in danger. bSafe is perfect for both teen girls and older women.

2. Hello Alfred

Created by Marcela Sapone and Jessica Beck, Hello Alfred is a subscription based butler service that completes its members to-do list throughout the day. You can come home happy knowing that your laundry and dishes are clean, your pets are happy, there is food, wine or beer, in your fridge, and the to-do list is complete.

3. Front

Co-created by Mathilde Collin, Front is an answer to your company’s email clutter. Front is able to collaborate all of your incoming requests and in doing so minimize the mess we normally call an inbox. Having team inboxes to manage email, as well as the company’s social media sites, women in business are able to streamline what is important without wasting time sorting through what isn’t.

4. Hey! VINA

Created by co-founder Jen Aprahamian and co-founder Olivia June Pool, Hey! VINA is an app dedicated to building global communities of women who make each other feel supported, inspired, free, and above all else, happy. Whether you have been in your location for long or you are just visiting for the weekend, Hey! VINA is the app you need to begin building relationships with other women in the area.

5. Hopscotch

Created by former teacher Jocelyn Leavitt and engineer Samantha John, Hopscotch is an app designed to encourage young girls to explore STEM fields by learning to code. This amazing app allows girls to build anything their hearts desire by dragging and dropping blocks. They are able to create mini games, drawings, remakes of Minecraft, websites, and their own emojis! Although this app is gender neutral, it was mainly designed with girls in mind.

Although it has been a slow rise to the top for women in technology, these founders are proving that women can and will create the paths they need to make life a little easier for us all.
